Film i Västerbotten supported a number of events through the Creative Edge project to act as meeting points for creative talents. These events acted as physical meeting places for emerging creative people, assisting knowledge transfer and the building of trans-regional creative networks. These are all important outputs of Creative Edge’s Creative Talent Development Programme. The following are some of the meeting points for creative talents that Creative Edge partnered with in Västerbotten, Sweden.

Creative Summit, Skellefteå

#CRESUM13 was the 6th Creative Summit and took place on June 12th and 13th 2013 at the Nordanå theatre in Skellefteå. Technology now plays a central part in our lives, and this societal shift is reflected in the broad range of creative work that Creative Summit speakers showcased. Creative Summit believe that bringing people together is vital for sharing knowledge, inspiration and ideas. The network also aims to create environments where people from all over the world can meet, regardless of industry or background. Over the past five years, over 1,000 people have taken part in Creative Summit events and workshops.

Networking at the FilmArc Master Class

FilmArc Master Class, Skellefteå

An international network across parts of northern Finland, Norway and Sweden, FilmArc works to strengthen the audiovisual sector in these regions. The network has built up a considerable base, with over 300 businesses and 400 freelancers now part of the network. The key goal of the FilmArc network is to help audio visual creative businesses further develop and internationalise.

One of FilmArc’s activities is the Master Class. Held in Oulu, Finland and Tromsø, Norway in previous years, the 2013 FilmArc Master Class III was held in Skellefteå, over 3 days from June 9th to 11th. The Master Class combined lectures and workshops, led by experts in Scandinavian and European film and TV. Creative Edge brought 20 emerging creative talents from the Västerbotten region to the event, which provided valuable opportunities for networking with both filmmakers and decision makers.

GameDev, Umeå

The game developer’s conference GameDev was held in Umeå in November 2012. The conference combined lectures, networking and social events and sold out in 2012. It is northern Sweden’s biggest game development conference and of interest to gaming industry members from developers and producers to designers and gamers.

MOVE film festival, Umeå

Now in its 3rd year, the 2013 MOVE Film Festival was held in Umeå from October 8th to October 13th. The programme of films and events included focusing on different aspects of film, from short film, to animation and documentary. A series of lectures and talks also ran as part of the festival.
