Sunsää, Rovaniemi, Northern Finland

Based in Rovaniemi in Northern Finland, the innovative software company Sunsää produces weather reactive advertising solutions.

Sunsää’s innovative software is based around the concept that weather affects consumer decisions and needs. As weather changes, Sunsää software reacts and advertising changes. Advertising that is in tune with immediate consumer needs allows sellers to more effectively target consumer markets. According to Sunsää, it is the first company to offer weather reactive products. There are currently no competitors or competing products and the potential market for Sunsää’s products is vast because weather impacts all of us.

Creative Edge caught up with Sunsää to understand more about the business and its plans for the future.

Who are you, where are you located and where do you work from (office, home)?
Sunsää is from Rovaniemi. I work from home.

Do you have employees? If so, how many work in your business?
Sunsää does not have employees, but a couple of sub-contractors do work for Sunsää.

What is unique about what you do?
Sunsää is producing weather-reactive solutions. Weather affects consumers in many ways. For example, it determines what clothes are worn when going out or how frequently one gets thirsty. It also affects many other consumer decisions, such as choosing holiday destinations, and when winter or summer tyres are bought. Sunsää is aimed at helping vendors to improve the selling of what customers need. Customers don’t always know what they need.

Is your location important to your creativity?
Not really. Creativity is not location based for me. But for creativity, it’s good to get bored. When I’m bored I start to think more.

What inspires you / do you have creative role models?
Problems inspire me. Good problems create great solutions.

How did you learn and acquire the skills you use to make your business successful? How do you continue to grow and learn?
I’ve learned by working. It’s the best way to learn for me. Learning is also problem-solving for me.

What is your biggest business challenge?
Getting new customers. It’s easy to design good products, but hardest is finding products that people need.

What are your plans for the future?
BIG! Sunsää is growing in few weeks with partners. After that we will have more power.

If you had to do it over again, what, if anything, would you do differently?
Nothing. It is really important to learn from mistakes. Without mistakes there’s no success.
