Exploring the Extent and Impact of the Creative Economy in Europe’s Rural Regions


This short report provides a summary of key findings emerging from analysis of the Creative Edge database. The report quantifies the nature and extent of the creative economy in the project’s partner regions, highlighting its significant presence in peripheral places. It provides a short profile of each region’s creative economy, cultural infrastructure and creative education provision.

Creative Edge Policy Toolkit

The Creative Edge Policy Toolkit presents a series of recommendations to support the development of the creative economy in peripheral regions. Recommendations have been designed around critical areas of need: the need for more focused attention on peripheral creative economies, the need for attention to issues around cultural consumption and the need to develop creative education.  This report also details the presence of a vibrant, diverse creative economy in Creative Edge peripheral regions that have potential for further development supported by appropriate policy supports.

Creative Steps Manual


Creative Steps brought young, creative talents from Finland, Sweden, Ireland and Northern Ireland together to work on assignments from international businesses and organisations. The Creative Steps manual  works as a sort of road map for the arranging of similar international cooperative projects. It contains the experiences and views of the organisers and participants in the pilot project,  as well as actual advice and tips.

Social Media Toolkit for Creative Industry Entrepreneurs 


Social media offers a variety of avenues to communicate with consumers. The Creative Edge Social Media Toolkit, produced by Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences, helps creative entrepreneurs navigate social media and use it benefit their business.

A Creative Hubs Project: Report and Best Practice Manual


This document reports on creative hubs within the context of four of the SEED Council areas in Northern Ireland and how creative hubs can work in regional towns in Northern Ireland. It sets out a step by step guide to how to set up a creative hub in a regional town, with some commentary extending to other Creative Edge partners regions.

Developing an on-line Export Platform for the Creative Industries

The aim of the export platform/website – MyCreativeEdge is to facilitate access to global markets for creative goods and services from micro-enterprises and SMEs in the five partner regions

Report on MyCreativeEdge Member Survey

This report assesses members’ experience of the practical process of creating their profile on, the impact of the site on their business and how the website could be improved. It also details other priority forms of support for creative enterprises. The findings are based on an online survey of members of MyCreativeEdge during late November / early December 2013.

Creative Edge Talent Voucher Scheme: Implementation and Lessons

The Creative Edge Talent Voucher Scheme ran during 2013. Creative businesses could apply for a voucher of up to €2,000 to contract a creative talent to do a specific assignment for them. Eight assignments were completed in Ireland, Sweden and Finland.

How the Scheme was designed and operated is given in this report and the outcome of each of the eight assignments. The overall performance of the Scheme and lessons which can be learned for any future such schemes are also examined.
